A prolonged period of chronic illness and self discovery of the contributing factors that alleviated and sustained the cycle of being sick. A by product of Traumatic Brain Injury, SIBO (severe GI dysfunction), Toxic Mold Exposure and a major eye surgery to save the vision in my right eye. This body of work lasted years and helped me so much during this healing process.

There was boxing. Boxing requires balls. And there was no romance. An intense period of time that revolved around healing from a major trauma. And so I boxed competitively and that’s how I healed. Art took a backseat for a few years as I spent most of my time in the gym. But I realized that not matter how much I neglected my creativity it was always there. At times I felt guilty for not drawing as much. But I knew that when I came back full time, I would come back even stronger.

This was my first year out of school as a Fine Art graduate. I removed even more colors from my palette forcing myself to work in merely black and white with a hint of hope disguised as yellow ochre and ultramarine blue. I found myself struggling to face the truth about some of my own demons. I explored and embraced these darker sides in my work. “Inner Ugliness” was foreshadowing the limitations of my future if I did not step up and change my ways.

These mixed media fashion illustrations were for a designer, “Jirawat” that published this collection in a San Francisco magazine. I absolutely loved doing these drawing. I spent my first semester as a Fashion Design Major, for I also had a background in sewing. After completing “Fashion Illustration 101” I realized that my true passion lied in mixed media drawing, so I changed my major to Painting and Drawing in Fine Art. My estranged interest in fashion forever remains and will continue to be an influence on my work.

Developing self awareness around my behavioral patterns. This body of work was a break through in terms of style, technique and recognizing the emotional impact of my choices in life. A brilliant and brutal period of time. I felt alive and had so much to learn. I could see at this point that anything was possible.
